State of the Union

The union that we hoped to make through an adoption, that is. Some of you know that we have been hoping to find Little Man a little sister. We even had a near miss this year with a pregnant teenager that I know. She met with me a couple of months ago, saying that she had decided that she wanted me to adopt her baby that is due this spring. But, as she was saying it, my gut told me it wasn't going to happen. She has since decided to keep the child, and I am happy for them that they are able to make it work.

Meanwhile we are on a waiting list with an agency in another state. We have had a couple of near misses with them, too. Actually they called about a baby who was born a couple of weeks ago, but we did not act fast enough and the situation got away. The timing was awful though. I was getting my stitches out (from my crazy accident) that day, driving my mother-in-law to the airport, and in the process of closing on our new house. Not exactly great timing to leave town for two weeks. I just have to trust that it was not meant to be.
I really would love to have another child. But, now with it taking so long, and Little Man turning five, I wonder about the age difference starting all over again with a newborn. We are thinking an older infant or toddler might be a good fit and are interested in adopting from Ethiopia (though that would still take a while). Or, if there was some way to adopt from Haiti we would love to find out about that, too.
I am trying to trust that the best thing -- for all involved -- will happen!

I'd feel the same way you do, that things will line up and your child will come to you at just the right time.

Good luck! I really hope that your family is blessed with another child in the near future. I will say a little prayer for you and your family. ((HUGS))

That is not too big a difference. In fact, children who are older by 5 years or more tend to be very sweet and protective of their younger siblings, and it's a very tender relationship they have.

I have a 13 year gap between kid 1 and kid 2, so I'm not overly concerned about gaps (clearly). I think you are right - if it's meant to be it will happen when it's supposed to happen.

I think that 3 years is about as much as an age spread that you can have if you want the kids to grow up as close friends. I was friends with my brother and we were 3 years apart. If we had been any further, I don't think that we would have been able to relate to each other.

Awww, good luck to you, Hon.
You had a lot going on the past little while.
My thoughts and prayers are with you... things will turn out just as they are supposed to be.

I hope you get that baby soon! My sisters are five and seven years older than I and we are very close so I don't think that's too much of a difference either!

My niece is 9 years older than her little brother and the age difference actually works quite well. She is like another teacher for her brother and at three years old, he knows more than some adults! I wish you all the luck in the world adopting. It must be so difficult and frustrating a process for you. Take care of yourself during all of this and don't worry about the age difference.

My understanding is more than five years equals two only children. But if you realy another child that statistic ideally would not stop you.
